he New Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X didn’t just appear out of nowhere. Its origins date even further back than its sporty predecessors. From the 1970s in fact, its name speaks for itself: The Lancer Evolution X has been born after years of development and is part of a continuing process for better, faster, more.
From the moment Mitsubishi entered racing in 1960 with the Mitsubishi 500 a two cylinder 493cc engine, the standard was set, it claimed first, second, third and fourth in the 1962 Macau Grand Prix. With continued success with such iconic models as the Colt F2000, Colt Galant, Lancer EX200 Turbo and Galant VR-4, the Evolution process emerged, the First Lancer Evolution entered the rally scene in 1992 and in its debut rally came third in the Acropolis Rally and followed up with a second in the RAC Rally.
With the Lancer Evolution II the first WRC rally win came, with every new Lancer Evolution generation, Mitsubishi improved the technology to meet the ever changing demands of World Rally Championship and tightened its grip on world rallying.
The rallying success also had a tremendous affect on Lancer Evolution sales, as production cars were equipped with the state of the art rally technology. The sales of the Evolution II created and EVO Mania, the first production run off the Evolution III of 6000 cars sold out in three days!!
The 1996 season with the Evolution IV brought Mitsubishi through the legendary Tommi Makinen its first driver championship, the following year with the Evolution V this feat was repeated again. In 1998 the first Constructors Championship was won, Tommi claiming three consecutive Drivers Championships.
The Evolution VII introduced Mitsubishi’s Active Centre Differential, still found in the Evolution X today; having been proved on the World Rally Circuit the improved handling created became a world leading system. The Evolution VIII added Super Active Yaw Control technology to its already superlative enablers.
The FQ era began with the launch of the Lancer Evolution VII. At The Colt Car Company we sought to further improve the performance and power of the already extremely capable Lancer Evolution. We sought to offer a range of increased power packages to enhance the Evolution experience. With the rally bred drive and traction systems coupled with the power the Lancer Evolution became widely regarded as ‘The Super Car Slayer’.
The Evolution X is the latest model in the Lancers evolution of speed and performance. The Evolution X saw the first introduction of the SST gear box transmission offering lightening quick gear change in both semi automatic and automatic modes. The power FQ options are, FQ-300, FQ-330, FQ-360 And FQ-400.
